Resilience Project

Empathetic Leadership for Reducing STS in First Responders

Description
This Learning Module was created to support First Responders and others who in the course of their work can themselves suffer physical and mental health consequences - “the cost of caring.”

After completing this module, the participants will be able to:

✔️ Demonstrate understanding of the concept of empathetic leadership and its significance in preventing and mitigating first responders' secondary traumatic stress (STS).

✔️ Recognize the symptoms and impacts of secondary traumatic stress (STS) in first responders and the importance of addressing it to enhance their overall resilience

✔️ Identify the key components of empathetic communication, listening and acknowledgment, understand their importance in supporting those experiencing STS and have tools to develop those skills.

✔️ Identify resources and strategies that can be utilized by empathetic leaders to promote resilience and reduce STS in first responders.

✔️ Engage in self-reflection and personal growth, recognizing the impact of empathetic leadership on one's own well-being as a leader and modeling healthy self-care in developing resilient teams.
